Relocating? This Is What You Need!

Relocating? This Is What You Need!

Reasons and considerations for relocating

There are many reasons for wanting to relocate to another area, whether they be on personal, financial, or economic grounds; and then there are the considerations, needing to relocate, because of a company move to a different area, or an opportunity to better your career prospects. Before endeavouring to make the move, you will need to contemplate many facts, and the pros and cons that this involves. It will need much thought and attention to detail, to ensure that you are on top of the game and know exactly what you are letting yourself in for.

Understand your options and make enquiries

Expenses: Your company may not cover your relocation expenses. If not, you will need to make provisions for this when considering your move. Make sure you have proper conversation with your boss or manager and have complete clarity. You do not want to end up paying a hefty amount from your own pocket.

Decision: Could the move be advantageous to your career? Will your job prospects be better in your new location? This is a question that needs to be considered, whilst keeping your options open, and helping you to make the decision that is right for you.

Cost of Living: Look at the cost of living in the area. Check if your income will match up to your expenditure to ensure it will be cost effective. There are certain areas in Japan that are very expensive, and if you plan to move to such areas, you must consider the pros and cons when it comes to cost of living.

Housing: Is there affordable housing in the area? Make sure that the properties you look at, are within your means and won’t stretch your budget. Try to contact a few real estate agents and they will help you make an informed decision fast.

Family: If you have a partner, are there local job opportunities within the area? If your partner or any family member has special skills, make sure to look out for certain opportunities for them. If you have a family, what are the schools like in the locality, and do they offer the educational prospects that you want for your children? Make a list of all your questions and try getting answers.

Neighbourhood: Find out all you can about the local neighbourhood and all it has to offer before you move, so you can give positive feedback to your family. They will need to feel a sense of belonging just as much as you will.

Relocation can be daunting but, finding solutions to all these issues in advance, will help to decide what is right for you and your family.

Organise yourself to be on top of the move

So, after much deliberation, you have decided that you are going to make the move. Make a list of everything that needs to be done, so the transition is as stress free as possible for everybody involved.

Set the date for your move.
  • Check that the property you are going to move into will be available upon your arrival, and if not have a list of temporary accommodation at hand.
  • Let your utility suppliers know that you are moving.
  • Leave a forwarding address.
  • Throw a farewell party for family and friends and look forward to your relocation.
Enjoy your new location to the max…
  • Invite your new neighbours to an open house and feel the community spirit.
  • Explore your new surroundings.
  • Get to know what’s on and where.
  • And above all embrace this new beginning.
