Storage Specialist

The Enterprise Computing Storage Operations Level 3 team is responsible for maintaining and protecting business data using a combination of the latest innovative technologies and operational tools.

Position Description
The storage operations team core function is to serve as the highest level of escalation for the Level 1 Command Center and Level 2 operational teams. Provide level 3 escalation and on-call support for in-house developed software and 3rd party products for a large global distributed environment. The team is further responsible for developing procedures and tools that enable our clients distributed plant to scale effectively by eliminating or parallelizing repetitive operational tasks. The team is tasked with the deployment of all new distributed and storage infrastructure, including new data center build-outs. Team members frequently interact with engineering teams and collaborate on the testing and certification for new hardware and software products. Unix Operations is also responsible for working with various customers in a number of different business units during outage scenarios and leveraged to assist in scaling their plant.
This role is for a Storage L3 specialist assigned to the European Storage team with the following responsibilities: Proactive health & hygiene tasks to maintain operational stability and compliance for risk & control programs to ensure the production environment is not put at risk. Collaboration with engineering teams to test and certify new hardware and software products and engage with clients to understand business demand, needs, and support during outage scenarios. Weekend project work with responsibilities to on-board new storage assets for growth or large programs such as new data centre build-outs.
Skills required
Strong working knowledge of the storage industry for both off-line, on-line, and related storage technologies is essential (e.g., Backup, Storage Array, SAN & NAS technologies). An equivalent of at least 3 years experience in a large distributed environment with a thorough understanding of Unix to solid system administration level and a comprehensive understanding of TCP/IP & associated technologies (NFS, CIFS, NIS, DNS). Competent scripter to support in-house developed tools and products (Korn Shell or Perl coding). Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems, with a “fix it once for everywhere” mindset, along with an automation mentality. Strong communication skills and a sense of global ownership are required. High levels of motivation, initiative, and a proactive or ‘self-starter’ approach to work is essential.
